Common Questions

Tree Trimming & Pruning FAQs

Straight answers to what homeowners ask us before booking. Don't see your question? Call us at 302-408-0626.

When is the best time to trim trees?

For most species, late winter to early spring, before new growth starts, is the best time. We trim year-round, though. Dead or dangerous branches should come off right away, whatever the season.

How often should my trees be trimmed?

Most mature trees do well with trimming every 3 to 5 years. Fast growers like silver maple, Bradford pear, and Leyland cypress may need attention every 1 to 2 years. Young trees benefit from structural pruning in their first few years to build a strong branch framework.

Will trimming hurt my tree?

Proper pruning does not hurt a healthy tree. Bad technique does: cutting in the wrong place, topping, or taking off too much of the canopy at once. A common guideline is to remove no more than a quarter of the live canopy in one season. Our crew follows ANSI A300 pruning standards on every cut.

Can you reach trees in a tight backyard?

Yes. Our compact SD64 spider lift reaches tight spaces where bucket trucks can't. It works over homes and fences, and its low ground pressure helps protect your lawn.

Is cleanup included with tree trimming?

Yes. All debris is cleared on-site. When we finish, we walk you through the completed work and recommend a maintenance schedule for your trees.

Can I trim my trees myself?

Light trimming on small trees under 15 feet, with hand pruners or loppers, is fine. Anything that needs a ladder, a chainsaw, or work near utility lines is a job for a professional crew.
