How deep do you grind the stump?
We grind 6 to 12 inches below grade, with multiple deep passes. That takes the stump out of sight and leaves the area level for sod, new landscaping, or a patio.
Do you clean up the grindings?
Yes. All grindings and debris are cleared as part of the job, and the area is left level and ready for whatever you have planned.
Will grinding damage my house or yard?
Before we start, we check the stump's size, root system, and how close it sits to structures, utilities, and landscaping. When a stump is near the house, we set heavy-duty boards over windows, siding, and nearby surfaces to protect them from flying wood chips.
Will the stump grow back after grinding?
Grinding removes the stump and its growth tissue. Some species, like black cherry and poplar, can send up sprouts from the remaining roots for a season. Those sprouts stop as the root system uses up its stored energy, usually within two growing seasons.
Stump grinding vs. stump removal: which one you need →How long does stump grinding take?
Most residential stumps take 30 to 90 minutes. Large hardwood stumps, like oak, can take longer. We can often grind the stump on the same visit as the removal.
How much does stump grinding cost?
It depends mostly on the stump's diameter, plus access and how many stumps you have. We give you a free, no-obligation estimate. If you are also having a tree removed, we can quote the stump with it.
